Society

Initiatives and programs created to support the communities and the environment in which we operate.

Our early efforts in ‘society-focused’ support initiatives, between the 1930s and 1970s, were centered on Saudi Arabia’s infrastructure and industrial development, including building schools and highways, providing water and electricity, and working to eradicate diseases such as malaria.

In recent years Aramco has taken a more proactive role in a range of voluntary citizenship initiatives: from developing cultural landmarks like Ithra to supporting micro-industries and advancing health and education. Our citizenship efforts today prioritize people’s development and environmental stewardship, by investing in biodiversity initiatives and empowering local communities through initiatives that help develop human capital and improve their well-being.

We are also expanding our social investments globally, reflecting the expansion of our commercial operations. And, in 2024, Aramco allocated $583 million1 to social investments both within Saudi Arabia and internationally.

Ithra

The Company’s flagship citizenship initiative, Ithra, the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, is positioned to make a tangible, positive impact on the Kingdom’s future by inspiring a passion for knowledge, creativity, and cross‐cultural engagement.
