Artificial intelligence is transforming the energy sector through smarter, safer, and more efficient delivery.
Aramco is an energy company with oil and gas production as its primary business.
Turning data into decisions for a more responsive energy system
Artificial intelligence is helping us see deeper beneath the Earth’s surface, reduce uncertainty, and make complex decisions with greater clarity and confidence. By leveraging data and AI together with deep domain expertise across our operations, we are strengthening safety, improving efficiency, and supporting more informed decision making in real time.
Every breakthrough begins with a question. At Aramco, that question is always “how?” As global energy needs continue to grow, artificial intelligence plays an increasingly important role in how energy is delivered reliably and responsibly. By continually advancing how we use AI, we are unlocking deeper insight from data, helping us maximize discovery and recovery, reduce costs, and ensure safe and sustainable operations.

We apply AI across our operations …
For decades, we have built one of the world’s most comprehensive energy datasets, comprising hundreds of petabytes1 spanning exploration, drilling, field development, and production. This foundation enables artificial intelligence to be deployed at scale, supported by long-standing investments in data architecture, digital infrastructure, and high-performance computing.Across our upstream operations, AI enhances seismic interpretation, subsurface modeling, well placement, and drilling performance, giving geoscientists and engineers deeper visibility into complex geology. In downstream operations, machine learning analyzes operational, logistics, and market data to strengthen refining performance, improve yield planning, and enhance coordination across supply networks. From real-time drilling support and advanced well-log prediction to plant energy management, network coordination, and demand forecasting, AI is embedded throughout the energy value chain.

…to help deliver energy people can rely on every day
This enterprise wide digital maturity has positioned Aramco as a global leader in industrial AI adoption, with five facilities recognized by the World Economic Forum as Lighthouse sites for world-class implementation of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.3

Behind every model and algorithm is a real-world outcome
By operating more precisely and predictably, AI helps reduce delays, minimize unplanned downtime, maintain stable production, and optimize logistics across terminals, shipping routes, and distribution networks. This reliability supports industries, businesses, and communities that depend on energy being available when they need it.
Advanced forecasting also helps production and refining plans respond more effectively to changing conditions. By integrating market intelligence and supply logistics data, AI supports more adaptive planning across manufacturing assets, distribution networks, and global trading operations; helping ensure continuity of supply across markets. For our customers and partners, this means fewer disruptions and greater confidence in long-term energy delivery.
Our intelligent drilling platform, the Saudi Aramco Intelligent Rig Optimizer4, extends our capability beyond our own operations. Having optimized performance across our rig fleet, it is now being piloted commercially with drilling partners, bringing greater efficiency and reliability to drilling operations beyond our own portfolio.
Powering intelligence at scale
How AI is shaping the future of energy
AI is only as powerful as the data behind it. That’s why we continue to invest in data acquisition, digital infrastructure, and high-performance computing, enabling our experts to move from raw information to actionable insight in real time.
Today, AI supports:
AI-Powered Subsurface Intelligence
AI integrates seismic data, sensor readings, and subsurface models in real time to create continuously updating digital Earth models as drilling progresses. By combining these dynamic models with machine learning trained on historical field data, we can generate predictive well logs and estimate critical reservoir properties with greater speed and accuracy. This enhanced subsurface visibility helps engineers better understand complex geology, maximize reservoir contact, reduce uncertainty, and execute field operations more effectively; improving resource recovery while optimizing the use of physical logging tools.
Integrated Operational and Market Intelligence
AI-powered digital platforms unify operational, market, and logistics data into a connected decision environment across our entire value chain. By combining advanced analytics with the expertise of engineers, economists, and data scientists, these systems provide a comprehensive view of asset performance, supply networks, and market dynamics. This integrated intelligence enables faster responses to changing conditions, strengthens coordination across functions, improves yield planning, and supports more adaptive global trading and distribution strategies.

AI-Enabled Plant Performance Optimization
Our Operations Co-Pilot uses AI-powered digital twins alongside advanced machine learning models to enhance plant performance under real operating conditions. By transforming large volumes of refinery sensor and process data into predictive insights, including estimating critical variables that cannot be directly measured through soft sensors, AI provides deeper visibility into process stability and equipment behavior.
These capabilities enable earlier detection of off-spec conditions, recommend performance adjustments, improve energy efficiency, and support more stable, high-quality refinery operations. This approach to intelligent operations was recently recognized with the Gulf Energy Excellence Award for Operations Co-Pilot, reflecting its impact in advancing operational performance through applied AI.5

Intelligent Turnaround and Inspection Planning
AI and machine learning automate the complex planning of turnaround and inspection activities across refining facilities. By analyzing historical performance, operational constraints, and facility dependencies, AI generates optimized schedules that minimize conflicts and maximize asset availability. This reduces planning time while improving coordination across teams and helping ensure a reliable supply of products.

Predictive and Agentic Maintenance Intelligence

From AI to Generative Intelligence to Agentic Intelligence
Our AI journey is evolving from analyzing data to generating knowledge and enabling action.
Generative AI tools now support scientists and engineers by synthesizing technical information, drafting operational plans, and delivering context-specific insights at the point of need. Purpose-built language models, trained for our operational environment, help teams verify safety requirements before work begins, access technical standards more efficiently, compare design alternatives, and navigate complex procedures with greater consistency, all while keeping human expertise firmly in control.
We have also collaborated with industry bodies and professional societies to help establish an energy-focused large language model that reflects the terminology, data structures, and operational realities of the sector.6 By contributing to shared digital foundations, we aim to strengthen AI capability across the wider energy ecosystem.
Building on these advances, agentic AI introduces a new level of operational support. Rather than only generating insights, AI agents can execute defined workflows, manage operational parameters, and recommend targeted interventions. Deployed across selected operations in partnership with industry leaders, these industrial AI agents help reduce power consumption, improve process stability, and minimize manual intervention, moving from insight to guided execution.

Building what comes next
As AI continues to evolve, so does our ambition. We are advancing the foundation of our operations, from next-generation high-performance computing to early exploration of quantum applications, expanding the boundaries of what is possible in geoscience, engineering, and industrial optimization. At the same time, we are embedding AI fluency across our workforce, equipping engineers and specialists to work confidently with generative and agentic systems in increasingly intelligent environments.
Our progress is strengthened through sustained investment and collaboration. Through Aramco Ventures, we support emerging AI technologies with the potential to transform the energy sector, while partnerships with industry bodies, technology leaders, and research institutions help accelerate responsible innovation at scale.7 From sector-specific language models to commercial digital solutions, these efforts are designed to advance capability, enhance resilience, and shape the future of global energy systems.
